I'm hearing and reading people saying Johnson's govt is doing what it can in good faith.

Are they/you out of their minds?! How short are people's memories?! How little do they look out beyond their box at what's going on to others? Do they have no friends or family in health? In the gig economy? Renting? Homeless?

We need people-first policies, desperately. Not the business-first ones that guide the government... with a hefty dollop of incompetence and slothful inaction. They put insurance before hospitality and catering, for example. Mortgage-owners before renters. There is very little to help those trapped in the gig economy. Front line health workers don’t have masks. Virtually no testing is going on, so we’re going blind through a pandemic. Morons were stockpiling, thereby making things worse for health shift workers and others, including in my family, but at least in part that’s because few have any confidence that the government has a plan, let alone the right one. And the government could have built and requisitioned hospital beds, still could; could rush the purchase and manufacture of testing kits and PPE. Could have instituted a comms plan.

None of that, or the wrong decisions. Freelancers' money is often on a knife-edge, yet they’re being told to go through UC, even though the 5-week wait is still in place. Food banks are closing, just when they need to be expanded massively. But also let’s say - food…
